gipper as ghost
I'll be doing a guest spot on Liz Baillie's superfun webcomic Freewheel in the next couple days. The comic is going to have a hobo version of Ronald Reagan in it, so I figured this would be a good way to warm up.

A Christmas Carol: Marley's Ghost
You wouldn't know it to look at the tags for his drawing, but "Tiny Tim" Hamilton chose today's topic as "A Christmas Carol". Here's my entry:
Speaking of Tim, it initially surprised me that, given his artistic proclivities, he did not choose to draw ol' Jacob Marley here himself. Seemed right up Tim's alley, subject-wise. About 30 seconds into drawing all those chains I realized why Hambone passed.

Happy Birthday
Joe (along with George) visited me in the hospital when I had a compound fracture. I was scared as hell and if they hadn't come I wouldn't have been able to tell my parents what happened, and I'll be forever grateful for that.
Happy Birthday, hope it was a good one.

ode to joe
happy birthday to my good pal, joe. i miss his kind-hearted crankiness. one of the nicest guys ive met in comics, no foolin.
Happy Birthday Joe!!
Joe was in my dream last night. We were in the studio talking, Joe seemed like his normal self but his glasses kept on giving off this glint that made me shiver. When I woke up I couldn't tell if it was dream or real for a moment. And guess what? It's his birthday today!! :)

Happy Birthday, Joe Infurnari!!
Today is the birthday of Hypothetical Islander and former contributor to Drawbridge, Joe "The Towering" Infurnari, so to celebrate I drew this picture of him with one of the characters from his upcoming First Second Graphic Novel, Mush! Sled Dogs with Issues, which will be in stores this time next year.

Strange Tales Dogpile
Today issue #3 of Marvels "indie" anthology Strange Tales hits comic stands, this time featuring stories by frequent Drawbridger Tim Hamilton and some guy who I sit next to at the studio Dean Haspiel. Tim's story features Machine Man and Morbius the Living Vampire, showcasing his love for both artificial life and the undead ; Dean's features Woodgod and the Thing, in a testament to his ongoing passion for both brawny shirtless guys and ungulates. I drew all 4 characters going at at it, Brooklyn style. Check it out now, at comic shops everywhere.
Strange Tales
Today we're celebrating the release of "Strange Tales issue 3." This
volume of Strange Tales featured work by myself, Farel Dalrymple, Paul Maybury, Dean Haspiel and many other familiar names around these parts.
Long ago Strange Tales used to be the place Marvel published
it's lesser known characters. It used to be a book shared by
Nick Fury and Doctor Strange, and thus is my reason in doing
this "Doctor Strange" sketch!

Bee in a towel
Jason Little is a charming fellow, intelligent, well read, sartorially elegant and an extraordinarily good storyteller. His books featuring the character Bee ( see above ) are exciting tales, elegantly drawn and beautifully designed. 'Motel Art Improvement Service' was one of the key works that convinced me that Webcomics was an avenue worth pursuing. It is now available as a book to buy from Dark Horse Comics ( 978-1595825506 ) and I advise you to do so at the soonest possible opportunity. Thank you for your attention.

Motel Art Improvement Service: 3DBee
You may or may not know this, but Drawbridge studios is actually made up of two distinct comics studios (as well as a veritable slew of guest stars from all over the place) located beneath the same roof in Gowanus, Brooklyn (which is itself located under a bridge, hence the name). The two studios are Hypothetical Island (The Cool Kids) and Deep 6 (The uncool, kinda-smell-like-pee Kids).
One of the mainstays of Hypothetical Island has been cartoonist Jason Little, whose new book "Motel Art Improvement Service" hits comic shops and bookstores starting tomorrow or thereabouts.
In order to celebrate this occasion, I drew Jason's main character, Bee, in 3D, reflecting an ongoing obsession of Mr. Little's. She's donning a surgical glove in a reference to a scene in the book-- let me just say it relates to the comeuppance for the book's main villain, a comeuppance that dwarfs all comeuppances that have ever befallen all the villains in all the books that have ever been written before. It's that good.
In the meantime, please check out Motel Art Improvement Service.

Today we celebrate the release of
Jason Little's book "Motel Art Improvement Service."
This is my subliminal impression of Jason.
He's kind of surreal to me. A kind of "Magritte-ish" person.
In a good way of course.

Ah, high school... The above is an approximation of my standard high school uniform: black Beatle boots, Black jeans (worn to the point of grey), black turtleneck (t-shirt in the summer), and topped off by a ridiculous bouffant of long curly brown hair... ah, high school me, I'd punch you.

In High School
"In High School" is today's theme.
At first I was going to do something witty about acne or
sullenness or something but couldn't come up with an
image worth sketching.
Then I thought, if the internet and or Drawbridge existed when
I was in high school (or jr.high) I would have done this!
I would have sketched the Paul Smith re-design of Storm when she went
all "Punk!" Mohawks where already a cliche by the time
they did this to Storm, but I remember being into
the story line and Paul Smith's art.

I don't know why I drew this.

A group of friends in college had a transcendant (and substance assisted) experience listening to this song at a party. Interestingly enough, when I read Miss-Lasko Gross' fantastic A Mess of Everything I found out this was actually something of a universal experience.
I've heard legends that there's a 27 minute version of this song somewhere. Someday I'd like to hear it. When researching this song I found this pretty charming video of Paul working the song out:

The Beatles
Today is the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, but rather
than being overly morose we decided to simply do "The Beatles" today.
Without taking the time to research or even google the "Yellow Submarine"
animated move, I simply drew this with only my memories of the film's
look mixed with the look of the 60's in general. Took longer
to color than it did to draw!
IF you're wondering, this is no particular Beatle...
