Big Barda

Here’s my Big Barda drawing. I always liked this character (hello, Si!)… I was tempted to draw her in her armor, but I also like that she’s often shown in her New Gods civvies. So here she is. Don’t mess with Barda.
I also posted up the pencils up at my own blog to help advertise the Women of Wonder charity event with a redirect here to see the finished version.
This version is done in colored pencils,12” x 9” (305mm x 228mm) but I might work this one up into line and digital color at some point.

Buffy

I love Buffy. I really loved that show - the idea of a wee blonde girl bashing vampires and big tough demons... I loved the premise, the characters, and the very fine spin-off, Angel. I wrote lots of words about Buffy once, in a British Buffy magazine that no-one saw. But those many essays expressed my love for Buffy. Bring her back, please - or indeed, any of the characters from that universe. And I mean the Joss Whedon TV show, no other imposters.
So here's my Buffy. I just realized I never drew her before. Rudimentary color; didn't have time to do it properly.

John Barry, Meltdown Concert 2007

I already did a JB post at my own blog, so here, at Tim's suggestion, are a few impressionistic sketches I did of the great man in June 2007.
Here's what I said at the time: "These are drawings I did of John Barry sitting in the Royal Box opposite me at the Royal Festival Hall. I hesitate to call it a portrait, as it was done peering through the gloom of a huge, darkened auditorium, but I hope I captured something of him. I wish I could remember what the orchestra was playing at this point; I should've noted it down but I was kind of caught up in it all. It was intense - drawing John Barry while the orchestra played John Barry, y'know?"

Dee-Dee Dalek

An oldie but goodie to start the day off. I first drew this guy in about 1983. He used to have a mohican on his dome too.

DeMatteis Day - Kraven on the MTA
Sat next to this dude on the subway this morning; sketched a quick portrait. He didn’t look too pleased and rumbled something about “knife” and “ribs,” but I got off the train before there was any trouble.
Seriously, I think Kraven’s Last Hunt is an extraordinary piece of comics storytelling. Mike Zeck’s artwork is incredible and it’s powered along by one of the most certain, unsettling and psychologically informed scripts ever published in the mainstream comics arena. Kudos and thanks to you Mr DeMatteis.
