Intestinal distress, zombie style
In every zombie movie ever made, there's always that one poor bastard who goes down in the middle of a swarm of the evil dead. All those zombies just hunkering down and chowing on him (or her) like there's no tomorrow... Well, also in every zombie film ever made, just one bite from the undead is enough to turn you into a zombie, so what happens to those unfortunate souls who spent some time as the main course of a pack of ghouls before reanimating? Well they come back, I guess, but looking substantially worse for the wear than the typical Hollywood zombie. When the Imminent Zombie Apocalypse finally hits, I predict that there will be a lot of sad cases like our friend here shambling around.

Zombies a la Romero
George Romero, in Night of the Living Dead, created a new entry to our lexicon of classic monsters, joining such luminaries as Bram "Dracula" Stoker, Mary "Frankenstein" Shelley and, uh, Wolfman Jack. To celebrate their creator's birthday I drew some anonymous zombies.
I broke about a week's fast from posting to do this topic, which was admittedly kind of custom tailored to my tastes. Initially I was going to draw the Simon Pegg/ Nick Frost "We're coming to get you, Barbara" scene from Shawn of the Dead as a tribute instead, but after seeing Natalie's lovely decapitated Pegg I'm glad I didn't have the chance to get reference.

Happy birthday George A. Romero
He turned 71 on Friday.
I drew a zombie in a space suit because
George never made that movie.
There's still time George!

Faux New Yorker: Zombies
Today's topic was "New Yorker Comic". I watched Walking Dead last night so I came up with this:
The end result is maybe more Far Side than New Yorker, but whatever. Gary Larson rules.
Incidentally, this is not my first stab at doing some New Yorker style cartoons. In fact, a few years back, one of my cartoons even won a New Yorker contest on the Leonard Lopate show. Check that one out here, as well as a couple of other cartoons I did.

| So, what are you in the mood for tonight? I was thinking maybe a little Mexican... |

The walking dead are better in groups
Had a little bit of extra time to do my warm up sketch this morning, so I got to do a little more detailed sketch than usual.
Which is good, because the walking dead are more impressive in hordes.
Unfortunately, I don't have cable, so I won't be seeing the show, but Happy Hallowe'en everybody!

Walking Dead - Pity the Zombie
As if we didn't have enough to be afraid of , now we have stuff like Zombies? Well in fact no and here's why.
Lets assume that the processes of autolysis and putrifaction are magically slowed in the dead body ( though not stopped as Zombie always seem pretty rank! )
Then we have say 150lb of stinking meat just ringing the lunchbell to every carrion eater out there and there are a LOT of those!
First we get Blow Flies and various types of Flesh Flies that lay eggs. The maggots then run riot throughout the cadaver, breaking down tissue and exposing the internal cavities to oxygen and more flesh flies. The various gasses emitted by the body are going to attract larger scavengers like Rats, Crows and Dogs. The Zombie may be mobile but it's motor functions are deteriorating swiftly under the onslaught. The corpse is losing mass fast, due to the torrent of maggots and flies feeding off it, the loss of liquids and now bits of putrifying flesh are being ripped off by opportunistic fauna too. Realistically our poor misbegotten Zombie pal has a couple of days of functional existence before the body deteriorates beyond usefulness. Thusly any Zombie threat would be neutralised by just not leaving home for a long weekend. Admittedly you would have a serious Rat and Bluebottle problem for a while, but they would die back as the food source literally dries up. Have a nice day.
