As you all know by now, Savage Dragon #171 came out today, with a big jam story written by Joe Keatinge, illustrated by Erik Larsen, Simon Fraser, Mike Cavallaro, Joe Infurnari, Dean Haspiel, Tim Hamilton and myself, and cobbled together by Mr Michel Fiffe. For my portion of the story, I didn't get to draw the familiar version of Mr Dragon doing much but have a conversation with a dead lady (read the story!), but I did get to draw a medieval Savage Dragon in shining armor fighting a fire-breathing Savage Dragon dragon (again, read the story!). To amend that I did a quickie marker drawing of MR SD, with an even quicker coloring job. It was a lot of fun to get to play, albeit briefly, in Mr Larson's sadnbox, and quite a thrill to see him draw some characters designed by myself and Dean Haspiel (read the story already!)

Strange Tales Dogpile
Today issue #3 of Marvels "indie" anthology Strange Tales hits comic stands, this time featuring stories by frequent Drawbridger Tim Hamilton and some guy who I sit next to at the studio Dean Haspiel. Tim's story features Machine Man and Morbius the Living Vampire, showcasing his love for both artificial life and the undead ; Dean's features Woodgod and the Thing, in a testament to his ongoing passion for both brawny shirtless guys and ungulates. I drew all 4 characters going at at it, Brooklyn style. Check it out now, at comic shops everywhere.

Loviathan! King Llyr by Dean Haspiel
As you all know, today is Fellow Drawbridger Mike Cavallaro's 61st birthday, and to celebrate we're all drawing characters from his so-good-it-hurts-dear-lord-why-won't-the-pain-stop webcomic Loviathan viewable at the Act-i-Vate website. That being the case, I thought I would share with you our studiomate Dean Haspiel's rendition of King Llyr that he drew last year when Cav turned 49.
I should mention that Cav has a serious thing for blond superheroes, hence the presence of Aquaman and Thor.
Speaking or presence, Dean had the presence of mind to make a scan of this year's birthday card for Sr. Cavallaro. A whole bunch of contributed, including Nathan Schreiber, Simon Fraser, Becky Cloonan, Joe Infurnari, James Smith, Dean Haspiel and your truly. Click here to check it out.

Dean Haspiel's Vertigo contribution
Deep 6 Member Dean Haspiel contributed this self-rejected cover for his current Vertigo offering, "Cuba: My Revolution". Here's what he had to say, after numerous corrections to his spelling and grammar *, about his piece.
"Here is an abandoned sketch I did for the cover to Vertigo's CUBA: MY REVOLUTION, an original graphic novel I drew; written by Inverna Lockpez, colored by Jose Villarrubia, and edited by Joan Hilty."
* not true. I made that up.
