The Day that Monday Ran Away *Updated*

When I was a kid I had a book called 'The Day that Monday Ran Away' by Robert Heit & Joseph Veno . It was wonderfully psychadelic and of it's time, the images stay in my head even today. The story was that Monday got fed up with everyone hating him and decided to leave, so Sunday was left holding the bag and Tuesday got woken up much earlier than he expected.
 Veno's artwork was ALL about the colour. So I sampled his colours directly.

I was somewhat sad to see when I did a Google search on this book that it only had a handful of entries ( almost none of them relevant ) and that THIS post was one of them ( along with a bunch of my other DrawBridge posts)! We think that the Internet preserves everything, but wonderful things get lost all the time.

Hydra - freestyle

I just started drawing randomly and tried to fix it as I inked. It kind of works , but isn't as planned as my normal inked drawings would be.

Heracles vs the Lernaen Hydra

In the swamps of Lerna, during the age of heroes, there lived a great and poisonous serpent, a monstrous offspring of the union of Typhon and Echidna. The destruction of this beast, called the Lernaen Hydra,  became the second Labor of the greatest of all Greek Heroes, Heracles. Every time the Glory of Hera knocked off a head of this creature, two more grew to take its place. It was not until his nephew, Iolaus, had the idea to cauterize the stumps that the son of Zeus was able to vanquish his foe.

Believe it or not, today's topic was not chosen by me, but rather by the lovely Natalie, whose drawing is elsewhere on this page.  For this piece, I recycled my own designs for both the Hydra and Heracles from my upcoming book Hera: The Goddess and Her Glory (coming out in July!) but the drawing is all new-- took me about a half hour, from pencils to scan. Consider it a preview.

Ink - So Long Osama

Now that the USA has killed Darth Vader I mean Osama BinLaden, do you imagine that we will all get our freedom back again? Or at least less crap to do at Airports?
