Yvonne Craig R.I.P

We've celebrated the career of the wonderful Yvonne Craig on this Blog before. Sadly this time it's to mark her passing. She will be missed.

Feline Nefertiti

I've been forced to draw cats lately so this seeped into the drawing.

In high school I created a clay mask of Nefertiti. I never really liked working with clay but THAT mask (wherever it is) was one of my favorite.

Nefertiti

For a year as a teenager I lived in West Berlin a block away from the Egyptian Museum where she was in residence for many years. After a typically teenage altercation with my Dad one day, I was booted out onto the street. In my socks. My shoes came flying out over the balcony and down onto the cobblestones. I spent the day with mummies and ancient artifacts. And... Her.

Queen Nefertiti

My version of Queen Nefertiti... in a see-through dress (because the drawbridge blog seems to be about naked ladies these days.)

Queen Nefertiti

Ok because Natalie Kim wanted it, we have a Drawbridge about  the potential rediscovery of the Tomb of Queen Nefertiti. Your move Ms. Kim!

Joachim Löw FTW!

Loved this World Cup - and the final was a game for the ages. As a longtime fan of Joachim Löw, Germany's stylish manager, I had to celebrate Germany's win with some fan art...albeit in a guise the sartorially elegant Löw might not recognize.  Wir freuen uns sehr auf Gowanus, Herr Löw!

R.I.P. H.R. Giger

good bye, Mr. Giger,
Your drawings gave the world
the most terrible nightmares,
but we loved you for it!

H.R. Giger-ish

The artist H. R. Giger is dead at age 74. He designed the "Alien" from the movie Alien among many other things. I drew an Aliens mini series for Dark Horse back in the 90's, and I don't want to draw that creature again (it was exhausting)! I'm not really sure how to pay tribute to him in our weekly sketch, but as he created many odd creatures I decided to do the same. Here's an odd creature feeding on another odd creature.

Giger & Woodroffe R.I.P

We awoke this morning to discover that two great artists and illustrators had died. Patrick Woodroffe & H. R. Giger. Both hugely influential and much loved. I did a drawing kind of based on my half memories of looking at both men's work while a drunk student in the late 80s. Thank you gentlemen.

Mad Men

We thought we'd just follow in the foot steps of last week, and let Television dictate our theme again. As Mad Men premiered this week, the theme is...Mad Men. The MAD MAN I decided to draw is The Hound from Game of Thrones. I read (some of) the books before the show aired but once it aired I noticed the "hound" like helmet that the Hound wore. I remember it wobbling a bit and looking like a awkward prop to get to work correctly. I never did see that helmet much after that one time that I can remember. Below is my version of his helmet and what he may look like.

Game of Thrones

I hated my quick sketch I did yesterday, so I did another last night. It's compulsive sometimes...

Game of Thrones

The new season of Game of Thrones aired the other night so we may as well be shameless and hop on the band wagon. I've already read the books so I hope you all enjoy the massive amount of deaths to come this season. Or I could be lying! Anyway, here's Daenerys and one of her dragons.

Half Man!

This weeks subject is Game of Thrones. A remarkable show in many ways, not the least for how unconventional its heroes are. So here's a drawing of Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister.
