Though I should confess, seeing all you guys coming out for this show, I feel like I missed some sort of cultural touchstone. Whatevs, I had Star Wars.
George, there will be a Firefly/Serenity day, for certain.
After StarWars, there was no looking back, it's true. But before that there was a time when Star Trek was all reruns, and the only new science fiction out there were the Logan's run movie, DrWho, and Space:1999.
Now that I'm older, I do have to agree that Star Wars f-ed stuff up. Sci-fi used to be so weird (think our recent Zardoz day) and afterwards it all became space opera. Firefly took the best part of Star Wars (Han Solo) and ran with it in a way George "Greedo shot first" Lucas would never be able to.
Pretty damn good. It'll learn you to not use my more all-encompassing topic idea "Futures of the past" to accommodate people like myself who were in diapers when this show came out.
Space 1999 has plenty of sexy women to draw you know.
ReplyDeleteAnd Martin Landau.
Sigh.
Wierdo!
ReplyDeleteYou're all just jealous that my favorite sci-fi show (A) actually aired this century and (B) has fans.
ReplyDeleteI aim to misbehave.
ReplyDeleteGood quote. I'm also currently loving "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"
ReplyDeleteI love this show. I love Gina Torres. 1999 didn't have Gina Torres. It did have many weird alien babes though...
ReplyDeleteWhen we do Firefly day, George will have to draw the characters from "Space 1999."
ReplyDeleteWell, that ain't gonna happen ;)

ReplyDeleteGeorge- If you missed Space: 1999, how can you even survive in society? Don't you sit and wonder what life will be like in 1999?!?
ReplyDeleteWell, I remember the moon blowing up the Earth and stuff, but aside from that, 1999 was kind of a blur.

Before StarWars we had 2001:A Space Odyssey . StarWars F%$#ked everything up!

ReplyDeleteHow does it feel to be the one person who
ReplyDeletesh*t on our Space 1999 day, George?
