Don Draper - Mad Man
As we seem to be drawing whatever our favourite TV shows are now. I've just caught up with MadMen. So here's a graphite crayon rendering of the elusive Dick Whitman/Don Draper. I was trying for a retro style to fit the subject.. This blog tends to veer a bit towards the drawing of sexy ladies, so consider this an attempt to redress that balance.

The IT Crowd
I've been a fan of the British TV show The IT Crowd for some time now, though I can't stand The Big Bang Theory which at first glance seems to draw from the same material. But I think that the main difference is that the IT Crowd uses geek subculture to create the humor whereas in The Big Bang Theory it is just the punchline. Anyhow, Tim and I have been watching the latest season on Netflix which spawned my warm-up drawing today.

Jack Kirby - 94th birthday tribute
It seems almost impossible to believe that one lone mortal man could draw the things that Jack Kirby drew. So I've drawn him in a powered Exo-Skeleton, so as to contain the vast cosmic energies.
I didn't ink this because Jack didn't ink. Though it would be kind a cool to get it inked.

Moebius
Been a while! As I'm wrapping up my book, all I wanna do is grab a big tub of popcorn and uh, relax. It felt so so goddamn good to draw something that wasn't related in any way shape or form to health care.
And hey, my super talented assistant Blue Delliquanti has submitted her own take on this! Blue is a recent graduate of Franklin (a US school in Switzerland) who saved my ass this summer by doing some heavy lifting on the art chores of the health care book. If anyone needs an assistant she is absolutely top-notch! I'll be posting a few drawings of hers in the coming days and weeks, I'm sure.
Going to come down to NYC in September and again in October before I cross the big pond, hoping I can have a real live drawbridge session soon!

Lilly & Cosmo - Starwatching
See Tim's post below for why we're all doing a riff on Moebius' Starwatcher cover.
I'm a HUGE fan of Moebius...which should be pretty obvious really.

Over on the Quenched Consciousness Blog there has been a kind of
informal series of drawings done based on Moebius' Starwatcher cover

Peanuts Kamandi
There's something very Chippendale about Kamandi and so I felt the urge to draw him dancing. All attempts were too tawdry and seeing as how this is a family-friendly blog, I thought I'd tone it down a bit. So here you have my version of Kamandi dancing like a Peanuts character.

Kamandi - The Last Boy on Earth
Jack Kirby may have been ripping off 'The Planet of the Apes' rather gratuitously, but that utterly bonkers Kirby vision shines through. 'Apes' is a great movie, but Kamandi is MUCH more fun!

Kamandi and Ink Panther
Simon wanted to do "Kamandi" Today so I thought I'd use
that theme to yet again also celebrate the 100th episode of
Ink Panthers. Why? Because Kamandi is a comic about
human bodies running around with animal heads! Thus, here is the Ink
Panther about to eat his Conn Muffin.
