Creature (not Stan Lee)
In which I discover just how difficult it is to draw paisleys... I did this yesterday but was having connectivity issues, thus the day late. It's not Stan Lee but could be Hugh Hefner (two people that I'd enjoy seeing a senior citizen's version of Freaky Friday.)

Stan Lee
Why She-Hulk for Stan Lee day?
Well, putting aside all the ugly
business about who created what (jack Kirby and Steve Ditko created at least
half of all those Marvel characters), Stan is still around
and and Simon wanted to do a Stan Lee day.
One thing I can say Stan did for sure is this:
He wrote the first issue of "The Savage She-Hulk!"
I know this because it says so on the cover. And
I'm sure NOBODY else helped plot it or...um...anything.
So I give you, "The Meditating She-Hulk."
Cause I hadn't had my coffee yet when I thought of this.

Stan "l'homme" Lee
For better or worse we are all living in the world created by Stan Lee. Yea I KNOW that it was Kirby & co doing all the heavy lifting, but it's Stan who worked it out. It's Stan who became a star. When we're all spending our time Twittering, Facebooking & Blogging we're all doing what Stan did and to the same end.

Alien 8
We tend to assume in our mammalian, carbon-centric worldview that alien life would make any sense to us at all.
This is a pencil drawing, photographed with my camera then tweaked with Gimp Portable. I'm still struggling to understand the basic of the Gimp. This is not helped by the fact that I have to do everything with a trackpad (arrgh!)

Goodbye Gene Colan
I spent some time inking over whatever pencils I could find on the Internet some years back ( I should post that stuff someday ). I think I can do a creditable job on just about anyones pencils , the only one I had trouble with was Gene Colan. The guy could draw like nobody else, I was frankly out of my league. It's a humbling and inspiring thing to look at Colan's work. May he rest in peace.

Gene Colan
Today we pay tribute the Gene Colan who passed away last week.
I remember finding his "Tomb of Dracula" at a rummage sale and
only buying the issues because the kid selling them insisted as I
had no interest.
Well, they were great...and creepy...and they had fantastic art.
Later I loved the strange but uneven "Night Force" which
unfortunately was not loved by enough people to stay around
for long.
Anyway, Thanks for the memories!
P.S.
I tried to draw like Gene here...not easy...

Happy Berfday Chris Sinderson!
Today is Chris Sinderson's birthday! As fine a chap as ever was to join our studios (I'm only sorry that Deep 6 Drawbridge The Tool Shed got him first), he's the artistic virtuoso behind the very wonderful Haberdash series, and above all, a very tall man at a very small desk. We love you Chris!
Becky Cloonan - Born from a magic stone egg!!
Because if you are not in awe of Becky Cloonan then you have obviously misunderstood the question.
Sorry I'm late, but it's hard to keep up from this distance.

Happy Berfday Becky! Blah! Blah!
Dracula, Dracula!
Happy Birthday to Becky Cloonan, drawer of pretty men, beautiful women, and scary-ass monsters, and fellow Hypothetical Islander and Drawbridger, who turns, like, 43 today. She knows why I drew Dracula for her, and so might you, depending on your google skills. As an added bonus, I get to complete my holy trinity of monsters I've been drawing the past few days. Bonus!

Frankenstein's Monster, or the Modern Prometheus
Drew this on the train over to the studio today, but didn't have a chance to post it until just now. This was fun-- we need more topics like this.

Preacher
Today I feel like a comedian who follows the comedian who was REALLY FUNNY. Thanks, Simon...
Anyway, here's a doodle of when I was in high school and went to church and had reveries of bikers crashing through the windows and getting rid of the preacher.
I'm going to hell now. So, good night!

Preacher - Herr Starr
Was there ever a baddie who suffered more indignity than Starr? His every success was punished with yet greater humiliation. Yet still he continued, motivated by utter contempt. I liked him. When most of the goodies in Preacher had become insufferably righteous and smug, Starr still clung to his purpose. You have to respect that.

B-52's - Channel Z - Where's My Umbrella?
So this is a long train of thought, but when I think of the B-52s, I think of Fred Schneider singing "Where's my umbrella?" in the song Channel Z.
And if I'm going to draw that, of course I'd have to draw Mary Poppins without her umbrella (falling).
This image also reminds me of the video for another good song: Sidewalk Serfer Girl by the Super Furry Animals

Sexy Satur....SUNDAY!
Ok, so I missed Saturday by about 8 minutes.
100% Photoshop painting. I did a lot of work on the face, but left the rest pretty sketchy, so it only took about 30 minutes.
