When I first used one of those sticks I thought it was broken. The thing barely moved and I was expecting a lot of wiggle. Having said that it was insanely robust. I'm sure if I could connect my old ones to my PC it would still work, despite the appalling abuse it suffered.
Yeah, its all analog in there, theres no microchip inside, the wires for each button and direction run straight to the system. Also, theres old scotch tape holding it together in there.
