The Cover of SpiderWoman #17

I have a great deal of sentimental attachement to the Marvel Comics character 'SpiderWoman'.  I had very few Marvel comics growing up , mostly it was british stuff like 2000AD, but I somehow had a copy of SpiderWoman #17. It was drawn by the great Carmine Infantino, who could somehow draw women by composing a series of ellipses and then by virtue of his incredibly dynamic inkline make them  bouyantly real...or even better than real. This made an impression on my young male mind.
#17 had a cover that I'm sure Infantino pencilled , then it was heavily inked by Joseph Rubinstein. The forced perspective was intense and I spent a long time analysing and trying to copy that cover. I learned a lot from it. So here I'm doing it again.

  1. I used to have a crush on Spiderwoman when I was a kid, but she knocked me back.

    Amazing perspective.

  2. Alex!
I was just going through your Blog recently. I do like how you're painting in Photoshop these days. You are the absolute master of rim-lighting! Nice to see you doing comics again.

  3. Now there are TWO Marvel characters you were born to draw: Iron Man and Spider-Woman. Very cool recreation.

  4. This is a great piece. Strangely, even though I have the complete run of her series, I do not recall this particular issue. I DO remember the sweet one where it was Spider-Woman on a red background fighting ninjas, and also that wacky photo cover with an actress dressed as Spider-Woman.
